Jaegir first appeared in 2000 AD in Prog 1874 (March 26, 2014) in a six-part story entitled Strigoi exploring the unsuccessful attempts to genetically engineer prominent Nort families. Rennie initially pitched Jaegir as a man named Armand Jaegir, and late in the process he decided it would be much more interesting to have a female protagonist with a new personal history. Desperate for an edge, the Southers have developed superhuman soldiers known as Genetic Infantrymen, or G.I.s, and thrown them against their enemy in the hopes of stalling the Norts’ inexorable advance. The Greater Nordland Republic and the Souther Confederacy wage an endless war for control of a poisoned planet. Norts are a fictional fascist enemy with Slavic and Germanic overtones from Rogue Trooper, a science fiction strip in the British comic 2000 AD, who are fighting the Southers. They were mainly responsible for the Quartz Massacre.
Rennie wished to explore the Norts who he felt were underdeveloped in the Rogue Trooper series. In Rogue Trooper’s universe, the battle for Nu-Earth dominates everything. Jaegir is a spin-off of Rogue Trooper, and was created by writer Gordon Rennie and artist Simon Coleby. Norts - Rogue Trooper Norsefire - V for Vendetta graphic novel and the V for Vendetta film.
